The 4th annual Liklik Diwai Turism Expo (LLDE) staged on 20th May at the Divine Word University’s Madang campus was hailed a success.
Student organizers of the event from the final year Bachelor in Tourism and Hospitality Management program spoke highly of how their involvement in the expo. They said participation in the expobolstered their confidence in hosting similar events when they leave the University.
The students organized the event as part of the Event Management course unit that they study in Semester One. The 2011 expo was staged under the theme, “Matching Divine Word University Tourism and Hospitality Management to the Labour market”.
Twenty two expo boots were set up by tourism partners as well as other local business houses in Madang who supported the event.
Miss Maria Lohia, who was among the committee responsible for promotions said, she gained useful knowledge through shared experiences. She described her own as rewarding and promising.
“This occasion was an excellent opportunity where we were able to show our abilities in planning, hosting and managing events. This expo was entirely organized by students and I am thrilled that the initiatives had met the desired outcome,” said Miss Lohia.
The expo also drew participants involved in the informal sectors such as the local craft market vendors and female inmates at Beon jail who displayed their handmade food carriers and sewn meri blouses.
Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) had sponsored LLDE with K10,000. Other minor sponsors included BeMobile , Jais Aben Resort and Coral Sea Hotels chain through Coast Watchers Hotel.
