There are 145,000 Grades 8, 10 and 12 students sitting their final examinations this year for the awards of lower secondary school and upper secondary and certificate of basic education.
The Grade 10 examinations, which started this week end next Friday, with each student sitting seven subjects.
Grade 12 students start their examination on Oct 17, and finish on Oct 28. Most students will sit five or six subjects.
Grades 8 will then follow, starting on Oct 31, and finish on Nov 3. They will sit for four subjects
Acting secretary for Education Dr Joseph Pagelio advised all stakeholders, including the public to support students and ensure examinations were not disrupted.
He said the national examinations were part of the standard assessment and qualification system used by schools to maintain the quality of learning and teaching in the education system.
“These examinations are essential tools for selection and the certificates issued using the results of these examinations will be used for selection for further formal education and employment,” Pagelio said.
He said there were other pathways whereby a child missing out in this system could follow to pursue other careers.
“The reformed system of education addresses this and will be realized fully in the near future,” he said.
“In their pursuit to excel in their studies, we must make sure they are well prepared to sit for the examinations.
“Parents, guardians and teachers must give as much support as possible to help prepare students for these examinations,” Pagelio said.
