Dreikikir High Plans Games

Dreikikir High School in the Ambunti-Dreikikir district in East Sepik will be holding weekend games for its students.

Teacher-in-charge of sports Terence Meten said the games would start next month. Meten said the boys and girls would be participating in soccer and volleyball every weekend. He said there would be eight teams in the boys’ category and six teams in the girls’ division.

“Apart from the games we are also planning to introduce touch rugby to the students because the code is very new to them,” Meten said.

He said the objective of the games was to identify talented players.

“Some of our students have potential in these codes therefore we need to train them,” he said. Meten is also appealing to players from the National Soccer League to visit their school and coach their students.

It will help build their skills in the sport.

He said soccer was popular in the school but touch rugby was gaining popularity.

Meten said touch rugby was new to them and they were interested to learn the basic skills.

In an interview with the students, they said touch rugby and rugby league were interesting sport and they wanted to learn more.

The students also appealing to PNG’s top rugby league players to visit their school and give them coaching and training.

Meanwhile, the inter-school carnival for all the schools in the province is expected to be held in June.
