The Miss South Pacific Pageant (MSPP) has taken on board as its cause the strategic scheme of empowering women through study scholarships.
The MSPP team led by patron and Moresby South MP Dame Carol Kidu announced the new support scheme known as the Tertiary Scholarship Funds for Girls. The association will implement it as an ongoing programme to assist young women in PNG gain tertiary education.
Dame Carol, who officiated the scheme, said empowering women in education was a goal and priority.
“It is an excellent start for the MSPP and the women and I commend the organising of this scheme by the team,” she said.
Dame Carol also announced a K100,000 funding made available by MSPP for the scheme.
The first and only recipient is Nicole Jeune. The money will help with her tuition fee at the University of Papua New Guinea where she is studying psychology.
