School Building Razed

A double storey dormitory at Laloki High School in Central province was burnt down last month. Provincial police commander John Maru said unknown men entered the school premises and set fire to the building using kerosene before fleeing.

Maru said nothing could be saved as the fire spread quickly and engulfed the whole building.
Principal Sutherland Yori said the building was a male dormitory that housed 80 Grades 9 and 10 boarding students.

Yori said information they received pointed to the building being set alight by “disgruntled ex-students”.

He said they were still in the dark over why the dormitory was burnt down.

He condemned the actions of the arsonists, saying they were people who did not appreciate government services in their community.

Yori said the community around the school must also change its attitude and look after the school.

Maru said police were treating the matter seriously.
