Schools in the country have been warned not to charge project fees unless approved by the Provincial Education Board (PEB).
Education Secretary, Dr. Musawe Sinebare, said that all project fees have been suspended unitl approval is sought from the BEP. This was decided by the National Education Board (NEB) on the 16 of February in Kimbe, West New Britain. The ban applies to all institutions including national high schools.
The move comes after public complaints and reports of schools charging excessive amounts for project fees and those schools were using this as a condition for enrolment.
According to Dr. Sinebare, the school boards, head teachers and principals have no legal authority to charge parents project fees.
