The alumni of Papitalai Secondary School in Manus have created a blog (http://papsec.wordpress.com) to keep their members up-to-date with the latest developments and discussions. The blog is an extension of the groups’ Facebook page and was created by alumni blogger Kingston Namun.
The suggestion for a blog was brought up during a discussion initiated by Serah Sipani Pamolak with regard to the declining enrollment of students from the school into universities. She pointed out that several problems including:
- The lack of healthy academic competition amongst students, fostered by support from the teachers;
- The shortage of spacing in the institutes of higher education and the ever increasing number of secondary schools and students;
- The decline in discipline and the lack of inspired students.
Ms. Sipani also created a plan to move forward with assisting the school and students.
Papitalai, back then, was the most productive school in Manus with a large number of her graduates topping the province and country. However, there has been a steady and alarming decline in the number students entering institutes of higher education which has prompted calls for action.
