A couple of secondary school students are the lucky recipients of this year’s Westpac Women’s Education Grant. The announcement was made on International Women’s Day on March 8. The grant was increased this year to K9, 000.00.

The grant was set up last year to offer financial assistance to women of all ages in their studies.

The lucky recipients this year are Jean Lafanama of Goroka Secondary School in the Eastern Highlands and Anna Lageo of Gordon Secondary School in the National Capital.

The applicants for the grants were asked to write in 400 words or less about a female who inspired them and why.

Managing Director of Westpac PNG, Ashleigh Matheson said they received many responses naming prominent females like Mother Theresa and Dame Carol Kidu. However, they looked also looked at creativity and imaginations. He said the winners were chosen based on what their role model inspired them to do or be.

He congratulated this year’s recipients and said it was unfortunate that would not offer a grant to everyone.

  1. The recipients haven’t received a their prized award since this date. What a shame, Westpac couldn’t even update the students on what is causing the delay.
