More technical schools needed, says Pepson

Papue New Guinea (PNG) needs more technical training colleges to train people.

Western Highlands regional seat candidate Gabriel Pepson said more technical people were needed to drive national development.

He said the best example was the number of foreigners employed in the PNG LNG gas project. Pepson said only a few locals had qualifications for those jobs.

He said people were the important assets for the government.

“We need our own citizens to work and benefit in developments taking place in the country,” Pepson said.

He said the government must not be ignorant but plan for the future.

Pepson has been a public servant for 25 years and says he knows the need to have more technical colleges built.

He said technical people were needed in the mining industry.

  1. Yes its good to establis more technical schools and collages in the country but the problem is we’ve got less technical instructors. Therefor we need to have more technical instructors to develop more human resource in terms of technical wise. Instead of sending students to study in the TVET programme, send the technical educators to improve their skills to impeart to the students.
