Plans to exit OBE

We will make sure OBE is gone…

Papua New Guinea’s education sector will exit the current Outcome Based Education (OBE) approach. This was revealed by the Minister responsible, Paru Aihi, in FM 100’s talkback show yesterday. He said:

We will make sure OBE is gone and our children get back to the basics.

There is no need to confuse or deny the children.

He also maintained support for the government’s National School of Excellence initiative and said it was a ‘smart way of doing things.’ He said, except for Aiyura, K40 million has been released for all schools under the enterprise which was approved by the National Executive Council (NEC) in 2009.

According to former acting education secretary, Dr Joseph Pagelio, the decision was made based on reports that the country lacked the scientific and technical workforce required to develop.

  1. what do the minister mean to get the children back to basics? does he knows what he is talking about? OBE is the way to go in terms of developing skills for self reliable. go and ask the people back in the village, what do they expect from their children when they are in school and after completing school?
