DBTI on one-week lock down

Don Bosco Technological Institute (DBTI) in Port Moresby is on one week lock down due to a reported COVID-19 case, the director president says.

We have decided on a one week lock down for the school as of yesterday (Oct 14) because one of our staff members has been confirmed positive with COVID-19.

Fr Alex Garces confirmed with Post Courier last Friday

He said the lock down was only for the staff and students and not the other communities from the Catholic congregations residing inside.

We suspended the classes for one week and place in house restrictions on staff and students.

The infected staff is self isolated in his flat as per the advice from the doctor. He is fully vaccinated and his condition is mild.

I was told by the nurse that he has improved. Meanwhile, we advised staff and the students to use that one week of self isolation to prepare for exams.

We have a few more weeks before the end of the academic year, the examination itself is in two weeks time.

Fr Garces

Fr Alex said it was a good thing that the staff and students had separate mass from the communities.

We told them that during the lock down they were not allowed to mix with the communities inside the campus.

We only control the staff and students when there is an urgent need to leave the campus. We give them pass to go out and when they return we advise them to stay indoors and not mix with those inside the campus.

As much as possible, we are trying our very best to prevent the spread.
