Discussions between The University of the South Pacific (USP) and the Federal Government of Belgium could see more USP students benefiting from scholarships, research, and student exchange opportunities.
Initial exchanges took place during a recent courtesy visit by the Ambassador-designate of Belgium to the Commonwealth of Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, His Excellency Mr Michel Goffin, to the University.
USP’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), Professor Jito Vanualailai, Director Research, Professor Sushil Kumar and Manager Development, Mr Iresh Lal welcomed Ambassador-designate Goffin on his first visit to Laucala Campus.
Ambassador-designate Goffin was impressed with USP and what it has accomplished over the years especially attracting well-renowned researchers and students from all over the region.
Professor Vanualailai briefed His Excellency on the University’s Strategic Plan 2022-2024 and the University’s commitment to improving student experience, research collaboration and student exchange.
We always welcome visits such as this as it allows us the opportunity to highlight the positive impact the University is making in the Pacific and across the world.
Professor Vanualailai
Ambassador-designate Goffin said there are many opportunities for scholarships, students exchange and for students to study and do their research at universities like the University of Antwerp.
Professor Vanualailai added that such collaboration would enhance USP’s profile as a University of choice for Pacific Island students and researchers who may want to apply for scholarships to study in universities in Belgium.
USP looks forward to seeing the fruition of the collaboration, especially in the research areas of Climate Change, Marine and Oceans, areas that would greatly benefit the University and the region.
