The first K120 million covering project fees for all schools throughout the country will be paid out this month.
And the balance of K40 million will be disbursed before the end of the year, said Minister for Education Jimmy Uguro. According to him, a total of K160 million has been made out by the national government to cover project fees for all schools this year.
From K160 million, K120million is ready to be rolled out anytime this month and the remaining K40 million will be paid before the end of the year.

He said once the monies were released, he wants all schools to manage the funds prudently.
Manage those funds well and to use it for its intended purposes.

The government’s allocation of K160 million under the key component of the Household Assistance Package in the 2022 Supplementary Budget for school fee assistance throughout PNG will be released to the Education Department.
This allocation was a practical measure to support schools to help families around the nation deal with cost-of-living pressures.
A second key component of the Household Assistance Package is an agreement for the government to pay the 20 per cent school project fees for all families around PNG.
This was seen as a practical measure to get more kina into household budgets around the country. PNG does not have a formal social security system. Support for school fees and project fees are probably the most practical option we have to help families around the nation deal with cost-of-living pressures.
We initially estimated the cost at K126 million. The Department of Education has now indicated the total cost will be K160 million. This supplementary budget provides the full K160 million in funds for this critical program.”
I now expect the Department of Education to urgently put in place the processes for getting these funds out to schools and to households.
Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey, said earlier this month.
Minister Uguro was in New Ireland to open the 31st Senior Education Officers conference in Kavieng.
Up to 300 senior education officers from around the country have converged in Kavieng, New Ireland Province, for the week-long conference. This is the first time for the conference is being held in New Ireland Province after a successful bid.
The Minister was accompanied by his Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra on their maiden trip into the Province.
