Gordon Secondary School principal George Kenega says he selects high performing students to maintain the school’s standard performance.
Gordon Secondary School stands for excellence and nothing more, I select students who score 100 and above, we want to maintain the school’s standard, not selecting students just getting the past mark.
George Kenega
He said these when addressing more than 300 grade 10 students during the 47th graduation in Port Moresby last week Friday.
Kenega said the school was established in 1972 with the first grade 10s graduating in 1975.
He said the school had celebrated 50 years anniversary recently.
Deputy academy principal Saju Francis said Gordon came fourth in the country out of 415 secondary schools including the private schools.
He said the school was in the top four last year and hoped that this year, they would make up to third place, second or even top the country.
Francis said due to a number of reasons such as the Coronavirus, election related fights, poor performing students were given second opportunity to withdraw or enrol in the following year. He said a total of more than 400 students enrolled in grade 10 this year, however, due to some of these issues, some had withdrawn.
Around 300 sat for the annual exams which was completed last week.
