Twenty (20) women from Imbonggu, Southern Highlands province, underwent a five-day training on tailoring graduated last Friday at Walume district headquarters.
The training was a joint effort between with the National Youth Development Authority (NYDA), Imbonggu district development authority and Ni-Van Tailoring to impart basic sewing skills to the women.
The Imbonggu district Youth Development Council registered five women each from Lower Mendi, Imbonggu and Ialibu-Basin local level governments and five from the surrounding communities.
The district CEO, Joseph Timothy commended the participants saying many women wanted to learn sewing but were not given the chance, adding that they were fortunate to be in the group, hence, they must put to good use what they have acquired.
My advice to you is to register yourselves so you can tap into small to medium enterprise (SME) activities, which reaps good benefits for households and family sustainability purposes.
You can make school uniforms and sell to schools as well as decent wear for district staff, among others.
Joseph Timothy, Imbonggu District CEO
He said the Imbonggu district administration will work in partnership with the National Youth Development Authority so that more trainings can be conducted.
Since our youths are roaming around doing nothing, this could be a pathway for them to get into trainings so they can do something worthwhile.
Mr Timothy
Imbonggu MP Pila Niningi encouraged the participants to do more with the skills they have acquired.
He thanked the trainers for the training and presented the four groups each with a sewing machine and a fabric roll so they can test their skills.
Melisa Topa, who spoke on behalf the participants, said they were happy for the training and thanked the partners for giving them the opportunity.
