A Digicel Foundation project worth K1.6 million at Busu Secondary School is progressing well with 90% construction completed.
School principal George Noble said the project is a four classroom building with a teacher’s computer laboratory and an office space.
He said the facility will greatly assist the school in having enough learning buildings so they can increase their grade 11 streams from six to eight in the 2023 academic year.
He said they have eight Grade 10 classes this year and predicted that many of their Grade 10 students will be eligible for Grade 11 next year so they will not get transfer in Grade 11 students or even select many grade 11 from other schools as well.
Priority will be given to our own grade 10 students eligible to continue grade 11 to fill in these eight streams of grade 11.
We are informed that the construction will be completed before this year ends and the keys to these building will be given to us in February 2023.
Mr Noble
Mr Noble said these classrooms and including converting of the female student’s dormitories will enable the school to increase its student population to 1700 by 2023 and 2000 by 2024 so the school level can be upgraded from level nine to level 10.
He said classrooms will be equipped with sitting furniture for the students while the library will have computers for teachers to use.
Apart from these building, we were also given a big generator which we are currently using as back-up power generation for the school during blackouts.
I want to thank Digicel regional manager Brian Marlon, Digicel Foundation chief executive officer Sarina Sasingian for choosing Busu Secondary for this project.
Mr Noble
