Education a priority in Kokopo

Education is a priority for Kokopo District in East New Britain province.

This statement was made by Kokopo MP Ereman ToBaining Jr at the 22nd grade 8 and seventh grade 10 graduations for Sacred Heart International Catholic School in Kokopo last Friday.

Mr ToBaining, who is also the chairman for the Kokopo City Authority Board, said that his leadership focuses on education as a priority.

We will only realize this focus if we work together as a team.

He said that in the education sector, the government is focused on areas of governance, policy and planning, new schools, school infrastructure, teachers’ welfare and professional development and school operations.

He also commended the school’s spiritual program integrated into the main education curriculum and praised the Catholic Church for such intervention.

Mr ToBaining said that with the district and province faced with pressing issues in increased public disorder and disturbance of peace through village fights, he urged all schools in the district to do the same.

He said that this should be aimed at teaching respect for students, their peers, elders and the community.

He said that children spend almost every day at school and such programs would be helpful in molding a child into more respectful and obedient students.

He said that this program will complement the discipline taught by parents.

He said that program should integrate law and order, morals and ethics into the teaching curriculum.

Mr ToBaining also revealed that whatever his predecessor has committed to the school or any other school in the district, he will work to honor such commitments.
