A final year student who is the mother of a nine-month-old boy is behind bars at Mt Hagen police station jail for allegedly stabbing her husband to death in Jiwaka province last weekend.
The suspect had completed her teacher training in primary education at Melanesian Nazarene Teachers College in Jiwaka and was waiting to graduate with a diploma.
The suspect was with her sister in their house when she stabbed her husband Dickson Galang in his thigh last Saturday evening.
Reportedly, Galang lost consciousness and collapsed, prompting the suspect into finding a vehicle and rushed him to hospital.
Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kudjip, Nazarene Hospital from heavy blood loss.
The deceased’s body was taken to the Mt Hagen General Hospital morgue while the suspect was arrested and detained at the cell-block with her baby.
On Sunday morning, police took the baby from the suspect and placed the infant in the care of the deceased’s relatives.
The immediate families mourning the death at Panjin village said they would not retaliate but want a full investigation into late Galang’s alleged murder and the suspect must face the consequence.
His immediate families condemned the action and said it was a first for them to witness such a horrific crime.
