The former secretary of the Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology (DHERST), Professor David Kavanamur, is among the seven recent appointees to the national higher and technical education board.
Dr Kavanamur was the DHERST Secretary between 2012 and 2017.
Under his watch, the then office of higher education was upgraded to DHERST, a department of its own.
Another of Dr Kavanamur’s distinct contributions towards the country’s development and progress was the drafting of the Vision 2050 in 2009.
Dr Kavanamur is one of the seven distinct appointees who have made remarkable contributions in both the public and private sectors.
They were sworn in on Monday.
These other six members of the board are Suzanne Crew, Philip Kereme, Prisca Mauve, Sandeep Arora, Jeremy Bradshaw and James Bu.
The national higher and technical education boards is established by Section 13 of the Higher Education General Provisions (Amendment) Act Board.
The powers and functions of the board come with responsibility to ensure that the objective of the board are achieved regarding quality assurance and regulations for higher and technical education in PNG.
