Primary schools in Tewae-Siassi, Morobe, will now have a school inspector after operating without one for a while, an official says.
Provincial education adviser Keith Tangui said schools in the district had not been operating well affecting students’ academic performance.
Bailim Zirang has been appointed as the new Tewae-Siassi school inspector.
The provincial education board has been tough on teachers in the district but it’s not working.
Some of the teachers from the district came to town and secretly stayed here.
Now, if any teachers are not working or teaching in the schools, they will be put off pay.
Mr Tangui
Tangui said this in relation to the declining district’s academic performance which had been affected by teachers’ absenteeism.
According to previous reports released by Tangui, some teachers from the district did not perform their duties, due to a lack of inspections.
So, now we have an inspector already appointed to be sent there, which we hope to see improvements.
Tangui
Tangui thanked the district administration for their support in helping the provincial education division to assign a school inspector.
He said the province is facing a shortage in school inspectors and appealed to the Department of Education to help by appointing new inspectors.
