The Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG) will be introducing the Bachelor of Government (Public Administration) in the near future, according to The PNG Bulletin.

In his keynote address during a stakeholder validation workshop held at The Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby, Chief Secretary to Government, Ivan Pomaleu, said the move is a strategic response to the need for professional, ethical and result driven public service.

Pomaleu said the program would embed values that align with the Vision 2050 and Medium-Term Development Plans. He said the public service needed to deliver with integrity and a sense of purpose.
He also commended SILAG Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Michael Barobe, and the institute’s role in building capacity in the public service.
Barobe, during his remarks, said the institute is working tirelessly to become a public service university by 2027.

He said the institution was building a pathway for future leaders that reflects the realities of governance and public service in the country.
Ms Taes Sansan, chairlady of the institution and Secretary for Department of Personnel Management (DPM) also commended SILAG’s leadership and said with continued collaboration, the institution would position itself as a leader public service education nationally and regionally.
