Student Dies in Milne Bay After Alleged Assault By Teacher

A tragic incident at Kiriwina Secondary School in Milne Bay has left a student dead after he was allegedly assaulted by a teacher, according to social media reports.

Witnesses claim the teacher confronted the student for not tucking in his shirt and allegedly struck him in the stomach. The student collapsed and was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Local community leader Rodney Togumagoma took to Facebook to appeal for calm and urged police to conduct a swift investigation. He also called for closer scrutiny of teacher postings to the province.

While I appeal for calm from our relatives of the Kuwakaya Clan of Tukwaukwa village, there is no excuse for the teacher’s actions. This is manslaughter, and police must ensure justice is served.

This marks the second student death allegedly caused by a teacher in Milne Bay this year.

In July, a teacher at Duau High School was arrested after allegedly striking a male student on the head with a piece of timber for making noise near the dormitory. The student later died from his injuries.

The recent incidents have raised serious concerns about student welfare, teacher conduct, and the psychological fitness of educators in the province’s schools.
