UNRE Develops Policies for Safer Environment

The University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) is developing a series of policies aimed at creating a safer and more academically rigorous campus environment, The National reports.

Pro Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development, Dr. Livingston Tavul, said the policies were formulated through consultations with staff and students, with support from New Zealand consultant Dr. Jo Cribb.

Dr. Tavul explained that as the university continues to expand, it is essential to have strong policies in place to guide its growth and uphold its standards. He added that the university’s management will now focus on implementing these policies and ensuring full compliance.

One of the key measures introduced is a total ban on alcohol consumption on campus, applying to both staff and students.

UNRE, originally established in 1965 as the Vudal Agriculture College (VAC) under the Department of Agriculture, Stock and Fisheries, was an all-male institution. It is now recognized as Papua New Guinea’s oldest state-run tertiary institutions.
