A LARGE accounting firm is on the look out to recruit fresh, new, enthusiastic minds studying Business or Economics to join its expanding team.
KPMG (PNG), one of the largest accounting firms in the country, visited students at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) on Monday, as part of the firm’s active recruitment exercise.
KPMG’s (PNG) Papua New Guinean Partner, Audit and Advisory Services, Richard Kuna said the visit was to let the students know that the firm had a graduate program, which not many students were aware of.
KPMG’s graduate program includes a buddy system in which new graduates who join the firm are partnered with a senior staff. The staff will offer guidance and groom the new intakes into fine employees.
“A lot of the changes that KPMG is undergoing has a lot to do with the LNG. Now KPMG has a lot more work to do,” Mr Kuna said, explaining the firm’s visit to the University.
He explained because of this, KPMG was looking for enthusiastic new graduates to be part of the team.
Mr Kuna spoke to the students about his own experiences, from when he joined the firm in 1994, to his promotion to manager in 2001 and his appointment as KPMG’s (PNG) first Papua New Guinean Partner in November 2006.
KPMG provides auditing, taxing and advisory services to huge companies. Some of its global clients include ANZ, Westpac, BHP Billiton, IBM and others. The accounting firm was also the first to be involved in three Commissions of Inquiries in Papua New Guinea, including the Commission of Inquiry into the National Provident Fund (NPF). Recommendations from the commission of inquiry resulted in legislation changes and the passing of the Superannuation Act 2000. KPMG was also sent to the Solomon Islands in 2010 to audit all State-owned entities through the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (REMSI), which took nine months to complete.
Also part of the team to UPNG were, Human Resources Coordinator Apasia Sawaraba, who spoke about the application process and Audit Manager, Sean McNeil who spoke about why the students should choose KPMG.
Manager, Tax, Mettupati Hariharan ended the team’s overall presentation with interview tips.
