The turnout at the 56th Medical Symposium of the Medical Society of Papua New Guinea (MSPNG) exceeded expectations, The National reports.
According to Chairman of the Society and Dean of the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS), Professor Nakapi Tefuarani, the expected turnout was around 400 participants. However, over 700 participants turned up resulting in a shortage of program booklets and merchandise.
He said the post-COVID turnout indicated that things were getting back to normal and they are expecting their usual 800 next year. The symposium was not held for the past 2 years due to the pandemic.
Due to the Covid-19, the annual symposium was not held in the last two years.

Professor Tefuarani also said the symposium was the biggest gathering of scientific and medical professionals and could provide the government with advice in the medical space.
