A female student has become the pioneer dux of a new school in the Unggai-Bena district of Eastern Highlands province.
Francesca Leo outperformed 42 other grade 10 students at the Unggai SDA Day Junior High School and walked away with the Benny Allan dux award of K2000 in cheque and a laptop from the Kingnet Computers.
The runner up dux student Diniyarls Ogi also received a laptop from Kingnet Computers.
The dux students shared most of the first and second prizes in almost all the other subjects as well.
Benny Allan, who was the guest speaker, and the Kingnet Computers managing director John Franky, presented the awards to the dux students.
The award of K2000 in cheque is for the dux student to open up a personal account and access it to meet her school needs.
Mr Allan
He added that the dux award was his personal sponsorship as the founder of the school on its first graduation.
Mr Franky said Unggai SDA Day Junior High was one of the schools that received laptops as awards for their dux students.
We have given out 20 laptops this year to various schools around the country.
We have started sponsoring awards for dux students of various schools since 2014.
And we will continue to recognize the effort and commitment of top performing students of many schools we have been associating with.
Mr Franky
In lifting the ban on school graduations imposed last year due to COVID-19 surge, the Eastern Highlands provincial education adviser, Wesley Albert, said graduations marked the formal closing of the academic year for a school where students’ commitment to their studies were recognized and teachers’ efforts were appreciated.
He further noted that schools end the current academic year on a high note in order to resume the next academic year in the same note as well.
Because of the COVID-19 surge, the school did not hold the graduation ceremony for around 60 students who passed out last year.
Meanwhile, tokens of certificate attainments were presented to 12 grade eight students who graduated with the grade 10 students last week Thursday.
