Madang Police Enforce Safety Measures Ahead of Festive Season

Madang, Papua New Guinea – October 15, 2025:
The Madang Provincial Police Command has announced a ban on all student outings and school excursions to Pik Island and other public recreational areas. The measure aims to protect students during the upcoming holiday season following recent safety concerns, NBC reports.

Acting Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Robert Baim confirmed that all end-of-year celebrations must now be held within school premises, under teacher and parent supervision.

All school closing activities must happen on school grounds. We want everyone to celebrate safely. Unsupervised gatherings or trips to the beach are not allowed.

Incident at Pik Island Prompts Action

The police directive follows an incident last Friday at Pik Island, a popular recreational destination for students and families. While details remain limited, the event raised alarm over student safety and supervision during excursions.

Supt. Baim said that the festive period often sees students organizing unsupervised trips and parties, which can lead to accidents or disorderly conduct. He stressed that police will strictly enforce the ban to prevent such incidents.

Schools Urged to Comply

Madang schools are advised to restrict end-of-year activities to within campus grounds and avoid planning external events. Police will be monitoring compliance, and any group found breaching the ban may face penalties.

Parents are also being urged to ensure their children return home promptly after school events and avoid gatherings outside the school environment.

Let’s work together to keep our children safe during this festive season.

Supt. Baim

Ban Effective Immediately

The ban takes effect immediately and applies to all schools across Madang Province. It will remain in force until further notice from the Madang Provincial Police Command.
