Papua New Guinea (PNG) schools teaching the American education curriculum called Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) will now trial two new books on maths and social studies.
The two books were launched at a conference of head teachers and senior teachers of ACE schools throughout the country now meeting at the Assemblies of God (AOG) Church in Lae.
The books were produced by an Australian education company called Southern Cross Educational Enterprise based in Queensland.
Dr. George Sears, who is an educational consultant in the Education Services Department of the organization, explained that the original books dealing with maths and social studies followed the American system.
Dr. Sears said both books had to be changed to suit the PNG education environment and both would now be trialled by the schools.
For example, in the math book, changes such as dollars and cents which are familiar to children in America have been changed to kina and toea for the PNG children.
In social studies the entire books focuses mainly on subjects such as geography which are PNG in nature and which PNG children can relate to better.
Dr. Sears said Southern Cross Educational Enterprise would like feedback from the schools quickly before the books can become part of the ACE curriculum in the country.
The ACE curriculum incorporates teachings from the Bible in lessons children learn at their respective schools.
I wonder if the Australian books will contain so many outrageous falsehoods as the American ones.
