The national government has awarded a K17 million contract to a national company, Regional Engineering Construction (REC), to build a new mess for the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) in Lae, Morobe province, The National reports.
The company’s managing director, Danny Kepi, signed the contract at Government House in Port Moresby on Thursday (April 22) with the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology secretary, Fr Jan Czuba, and Unitech deputy vice chancellor Dr Garry Sali.
The Governor General, Sir Bob Dadae, also co-signed the contract.
The new mess building will replace the dining hall burnt down in June of 2016 during the height of the student unrest.
