Education Minister Jimmy Uguro has condemned school fights in the country and has urged school administrations and teachers to look at ways to address the problem.
He said teachers were also trained in educational psychology and resolving problems that students had and needed to recognize and effectively deal with attitudes and issues with discipline.
Uguro said teachers needed to be supported adequately so they could do this part of their jobs.
He said if teachers were unable to address issues with students, the matter needed to be referred up the line to principals and governing councils with input from parents and the students themselves.
Uguro said in extreme cases, the police would need to be involved, particular if offenses were committed.
