Three students from Papua New Guinea have received a scholarship to study in the United Kingdom (UK), and to learn about the British and other cultures.
British High Commissioner Keith Scott said the three beneficiaries of the Chevening Scholarship were among students from other countries selected to study in various fields in the UK.
The three are George Amba, to do a masters in hydrography at Plymouth University, Fredrick Tamarua to study international economic law at the University of Warwick, and Philomina Polu to pursue a masters in plant genetics and crop improvement programme at the University of East Anglia.
Polu said the Chevening scholarship was “prestigious” and competitive.
I am grateful to the UK government for this opportunity given to me.
It has always been my dream to be a plant molecular geneticist/plant breeder to help improve food production in PNG.

Amba said his studies would assist him in his professional pursuit to contribute to PNG’s sustainable development plans.
Tamarua said post graduate-study was always on his radar.
He just needed to find the right timing and perfect opportunity which the scholarship is offering.
Higher Education Minister Wesley Raminai advised the three students to perform to the best of their ability. He thanked the British government for giving such opportunities to Papua New Guinean students.
