Three female teachers in a high school in Jiwaka have been suspended after one of them posted on social media a picture of them consuming alcohol in the staff-room, says an official.
Jiwaka education advisor Dr Charly Muke told The National that it was wrong for teachers to consume alcohol inside the school premises.
Dr Muke said the teachers posted the picture during the World Teachers’ Day celebration at the school, but the post went viral recently on Facebook.
He said teachers could consume alcohol after hours but not inside a classroom or staff-room.
A school inspector was sent to the school to investigate the case on Monday.
Dr Muke clarified that the three were non-teaching qualified teachers. As such they were not registered teachers.
They will be laid off and will not get any job offer for next year.
Dr Muke warned teachers in the province not to consume alcohol in school as it painted a bad picture of teachers.
Dr Muke advised teachers in the province to show a good example to students and be good role models.
