DHERST to fund nursing colleges

The Health Department will no longer fund the nursing colleges, says the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) acting Secretary Dr Francis Hualupmomi.

Last week, I received a letter from the Department of Health addressing us that they have advised the Treasury Department to transfer all the budget allocations to the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST).

So by next year, we should have the budget allocations for nursing colleges and the Maritime College in Madang.

Colleges under the Department of Education were the highest. That was a big challenge.

Dr Hualupmomi

He said colleges under the Department of Education (which got the highest number) were now funded by the DHERST.

That’s for the reform, for the transfer of all the colleges. So as I speak, by law, they are under us now, we done it for the education.

Hualupmomi

He said the teachers’ and technical colleges were transferred from the Education Department to be under the Department (DHERST) also. These colleges are now receiving operational funds from DHERST.
