All schools in Morobe province resumed classes yesterday and teachers are expected to be in the classroom and not elsewhere.
Morobe provincial education advisor Keith Tangui said teachers were given ample time to participate in the election as polling and counting officials.
Mr Tangui said due to the delay in polling and counting for some districts, schools were given an extension of one week holiday last week apart from the two weeks holiday for term two break.
He said counting should be completed by now and all teachers should resume duties because they cannot jeopardize the learning of students giving the excuse of participating in the election.
All teachers are instructed to leave the counting venues and return back to the classrooms.
I know the counting is still continuing for the districts of Nawaeb, Menyamya, Wau-Waria and Tewae-Siassi this week, and if my teachers are being used as counting officials, returning officers are advised to replace them with other people.
Mr Tengui
Mr Tengui said the provincial education board circular is clear and teachers must be withdrawn from counting centers now as they are being employed and paid by the Teaching Services Commission (TSC) and not the PNG Electoral Commission (PNGEC).
He said enough time was given for their teachers to be engaged while the education division allowed school campuses and facilities to be used in the 2022 National General Election.
I want to remind teachers to get their programs and timetable ready and focus on teaching the students instead of being carried away with election related matters.
