Hetwara gang strikes at school

A primary school in Madang’s Rai Coast has become the latest victim of the infamous Hetwara gang, The National reports.

It is reported that about ten (10) female students from Bambu Primary School were raped and a number of people killed or injured and properties destroyed after a spate of attacks by the gang on villages in the area’s Nankina valley last week.

According to community leader Kevin Sandip, the gang has grown in numbers. He said no area in the valley is safe and villagers are fleeing.

He said the gang went to the school, robbed the head teacher and raped several female students in the classrooms.

The gang reportedly attacked Tapen Primary School too.

Sandip pleaded for Madang leaders and government to urgently address the law and order issues and bring an end to the gang’s reign of terror.
