Morobe to ban students and teachers from the Highlands

Schools in Morobe province will not accept students and teachers from the Highlands, according to The National, as a lesson to the region for its lack of respect of education services.

Morobe provincial education advisor Mr Keith Tangui said the decision was made by the Provincial Education Board (PEB) to force the people in the Highlands to address the issue of violence and destruction of schools and education services in the region.

Mr Tangui said schools in the Highlands were impacted by violence during the 2022 National General Elections (NGE), and they have not shown any consideration for the importance of education. He said Morobe should not be a haven for affected students regardless of them being victims.

Tangui also added that instructions have been sent out to schools in Morobe regarding the BEP’s decision.

After the resolution was passed by the board, we have also issued directives out to schools in the province to make them fully aware of the board’s resolution.
