Education secretary, Dr Uke Kombra, has admitted errors have been found in the national grade 12 geography examination paper and says it will be looked into before marking takes place, The National reports.
Kombra said the situation could not be addressed immediately as the examinations are currently underway. He said students’ marks would not be affected as the responsible unit, Measurement Services Unit (MSU), would either use the students’ internal marks or give bonus points to make up for the error.
According to reports by both Post Courier and The National, there are errors in the maps used in the questions.
The National reported 10 multiple choice questions were based on a topographic map of Murik in East Sepik. However, a map of Musa was used instead. Post Courier also reported the absence of a topographic map of Buka for some questions and a map without a scale for a question.
It is reported that in some schools the examinations were paused when the issues were raised and students were asked to disregard the respective questions.
Unfortunately, this is not the first instance of errors found in examination papers. According to PNG Education News, errors were found in the 2014 grade 12 mathematics examination papers.
