2023 MRDC Scholarships Award Program

This program is set up to provide school fee assistance to support children from project impacted areas to complete their tertiary education.

This Award:

  • Is for students who are beneficiaries from the project impacted areas and are attending or are accepted to attend any tertiary institution in PNG that is recognized by National Training Council (NTC).
  • Will cover tuition and boarding fees only
  • Can be either a full or partial scholarship.

Purpose

MRDC recognizes that education is the single most powerful and effective investment that has the ability to drive positive change and improve the quality of life for the project impacted area people.

The purpose of this scholarship award is to enable MRDC and its subsidiaries to invest in the education of children from the project impacted areas by providing them support to access tertiary education.

Priority Areas of Study

  • The Scholarship Award support all areas of study such as in:
  • Trades in Science & Technology
  • Business & Economics
  • Tourism & Hospitality
  • Social Studies
  • Religion & Vocational Studies

Applicant Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship award, the applicant has to meet these criteria:

  1. Be a direct beneficiary from
    1. Project area defined by the project MOAs
    2. Tribe of origin
    3. ILG or Clan
    4. Application form has to be fully completed and supported or endorsed by the ILG/Clan Chairman.
  2. Must complete Grade 12.
  3. Must be an existing or is accepted to attend a government recognized tertiary education institution recognized by National Training Council (NTC).
  4. Must have the minimum entry level qualifications if you are attending or is accepted to attend a technical trade or vocational institution.
  5. A Police Clearance Letter is optional at this time.

Eligibility Requirement

Applicant should:

  1. Be a member of a beneficiary clan or ILG from any of the following resource project areas of:
    1. Ok Tedi Mine Villages CMCA Region (Western Province)
    2. Moran Oil Project
    3. Gobe Oil Project
    4. Kutubu Oil Project
    5. PNGLNG Plant Site Villages
    6. PNGLNG Pipeline Segment 1 – 7
    7. Hides 4
  2. Be an existing student in a tertiary institution or has been accepted to attend a tertiary institution;
  3. Provide a Letter of Acceptance or a conformation letter from the institution;
  4. Provide a Character Reference Letter from any of the three:
    1. Local Ward Councilor
    2. Local Pastor
    3. Local School Teacher
  5. Applicants for technical, trades and vocational training must have a minimum entry – level qualification
