It was an emotional moment for the Wanzing family knowing that they would not see their late son walk down the aisle with a gown to receive his certificate.
They sat quietly with sadness in their hearts amongst the crowd at the Bautama Seventh-Day Adventist Church grounds to witness the Carr Memorial Primary School’s 27th Grade 8 graduation ceremony yesterday.
With respect to those loved ones lost during the year, a minute of silence was observed to those people who had loved to be there yesterday to attend the graduation ceremony, but were not able to.
Raela Wanzing, late Rex’s mother could not hold back her tears yesterday as she watched his Grade 8 ‘Blue’ Class of 2022 walk down the aisle with their gowns to receive their certificates and awards.
A healthy and fine looking 14-year-old Rex was among three others who tragically lost their lives last year at the Port Moresby General Hospital after undergoing operation.
I had a healthy son who went into the operating room and coming out from that room dead is something that I cannot accept to this date.
Late Rex was attending this school as a grade seven student at the time of his untimely death on that very morning of August 13, 2021.
Mrs Wanzing
Late Rex would have been among 203 students who graduated with certificates of attainments and received awards in various subjects yesterday.
To this date, the Wanzing family still believe a simple procedure that went wrong during operation caused the death of their son at PMGH.
It was very unfortunate to lose their son in such a manner.
He was an energetic son, he went to school and was known by many at school, home and everywhere because of his outgoing personality.
On Thursday August 12, 2021, 12.15pm he was pushed into the Operating Theatre but was pushed out fighting for his life and succumb to his death on Friday August 13 at 5am.
He was a healthy boy walking into the theatre and later on he came out feeling unwell.
