K7 million for teacher leave fares in Morobe

Mr Keith Tangui

Over K7 million will be paid to 908 teachers as leave entitlements.

The exercise started yesterday at the Morobe Provincial Government office.

Teachers whose applications for leave were successful were given their fares, said provincial education adviser Keith Tangui.

This year we are paying a total of over K7 million leave fares to our teachers.

After working very hard in Morobe, every two years they take leave to their own province or where they come from in the 9 districts in Morobe.

Many of them are happy that we are paying them out quickly, before we use to delay the payment because of funding issues but we thank our provincial administration for making possible this amount of money to be paid to the teachers.

Mr Tangui said those teachers whose applications were not successful due to missing required documents can apply for leave next year.

More than 2000 teachers had applied but due to screening of each applicant, a good number of applications were not successful because we want genuine teachers.

Mr Tangui

He said it is a teacher’s entitlement, however factual documents must be provided as per the requirements for applications to be successful.

He urged teachers to use the leave fares wisely and given that it is the festive period, he encouraged the teacher from outside province that are teaching in Morobe to go out and have fun with their families.

My only advice is that use the money wisely for good purpose that will benefit you and your family.

Tangui

Compared to last year, this year payments were made at the office instead to the service providers which most teachers were pleased with.
