Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships are prominent awards offered by the Australian Government in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea to support service delivery in Health, Education and Transport. Through study and training in PNG, scholarship recipients develop knowledge and skills to drive and make positive contributions to social and economic development.

The Australian Government is committed to promoting gender equity, disability and social inclusion (GESI) and encourages women, people with disability and people from rural and remote locations to apply for an In-PNG Scholarship.

Fraudulent documents and false statements

The Australian Government takes a zero-tolerance approach to fraud. Fraudulent documents and false statements will not be accepted in the scholarship process.

Scholarship Categories

Scholarships is for study in PNG only (not Australia).

Diploma in General Nursing

Scholarships to undertake a three (3) year Diploma in General Nursing in one of these two (2) institutions:

  • Lae School of Nursing
  • Lutheran School of Nursing

Bachelor of Midwifery

Scholarships to undertake an 18-month Bachelor of Midwifery at the following institutions:

  • Pacific Adventist University
  • St Mary’s School of Nursing
  • University of Goroka
  • University of Papua New Guinea
  • Lutheran School of Nursing

Post Graduate Diploma in Education

Scholarships to undertake a Post-graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary Teaching, STEM) at the University of Goroka.

Maritime Cadetship for Women

Scholarships for women only. Cadetships include a combination of study at the PNG Maritime College in Madang and seafaring experience to enable professional maritime qualifications.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Tuition fees and on campus accommodation (for those residing on campus only).
  • A fortnightly contribution to your living expenses.
  • A one-off establishment allowance.
  • Mobilization and demobilization travel to and from your province of residence to institution.
  • ‘Reunion’ travel for study programs of more than 12 months.
  • A health insurance policy for your study duration (for its awardees only).
  • A medical kit (for health awards).
  • On-award enrichment programs including support to prepare to enter the workforce on graduation.
  • Membership fees (for one year) for the PNG-Australia Alumni Association.
