Call for Nominations to PNG University of Technology (PNGUoT) Governing Council Membership

PNG University of Technology Council currently has three (3) vacancies for external Council members. PNG UoT, therefore, calls for expression of interest from qualified and experienced Papua New Guineans to be nominated to the membership of the Council.

Functions of the Council

  1. To appoint Officers, Professors, Head of Departments of the University, academic, administrative and other staff of the University.
  2. To have the charge of the management and administration of the income, property and personnel of the University, and the conduct of all matters relating to the University not otherwise provided for in or under subordinate legislation made in accordance with this Act;
  3. To approve the annual report, annual financial statements, the audit report thereon and the budget of the University for the next financial year
  4. To exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed on it by this Act
  5. Generally, to take such actions as appears to its best calculated to promote the interest of the University.
  6. In determining any matter which directly affects the academic policy of the University, the Council shall consult with the Academic Board.

Requirements and Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following general requirements;

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Management, Law, Economics, Engineering, Project Management, Public Policy, Education or other relevant qualifications.
  • Must pass the ‘Fit and Proper’ Persons’ Requirement.
  • Must have extensive management and administrative experience in serving both the public and private Sector organizations.
  • A fair knowledge of higher education sector in Papua New Guinea.
  • Experience in Board roles with other organizations both public and private would be an added advantage.

Fit and Proper Person’s Requirements

  • The nominee is a person of good character and reputation and standing in the community without any criminal records or has not been charged with an offense (Current Certificate of Police Clearance is required).
  • The nominee must be of sound mind and judgement and able to contribute to the business of the University.
  • The nominee must not have any personal interest which may likely be in conflict with interests or objectives of the University.
  • Must be medically fit (A full medical report is required).
  • The nominee must be a resident of Papua New Guinea.

Application Process

Applications must include;

  • A Cover Letter addressing the selection criteria;
  • A current detailed Curriculum Vitae with the names and contact details of three (3) Referees who are contactable by email or telephone;
  • Obtain Conflict of Interest Form to be filled and submitted together with the application if you have any business associations with PNGUoT.
  • A group or organization can also nominate candidates they think can fit the requirement.
