A total of 78, 966 students in grade 10 nationwide will sit for their Written Expression Examinations today, June 1st.
Education Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra urged all the schools administering the examinations to refrain from malpractices and ensure that they support the process today. He said there have been instances of malpractice in the past and is therefore affirming the need for care and caution as well as a warning of severe penalties for law breakers.
We have eliminated cheating in the examinations. Hence, results are based on hard work and offer better education benchmarks.

He said students and schools were being warned of serious consequences which include non-certification for students, termination from teaching for teachers and banning of the schools involving themselves for a minimum period of three years.
Dr Kombra conveyed his well wishes to grade ten students and schools.
All provinces and schools have received their exams as per the data received by the Measurement Services Division (MSD) in Port Moresby.
Secretary Kombra encouraged all students, teachers and provinces to ensure that the exams are done fairly and to the best of their ability.
I call on all citizens of Papua New Guinea to support and abide by the fair administration of exams.

He also appealed to all schools to have their Registration Documents fixed up with School Registration Committee of the Department. Schools would not be allowed to sit the objective examinations without proper registration.
MSD Assistant Secretary, Mr Packiam Arulappan, says more than 78, 000 grade ten students are from 451 schools approved to sit the examinations. These are high schools and secondary schools including private and permitted schools.
In Enga Province, Kopen Secondary School sees more than 250 students sitting their examinations today and if passed, will be pioneers of the Kopen School of Excellence next year.
