Grade 9 student kills teacher, killed in retaliation

A grade 9 student in Angoram, East Sepik was killed by angry citizens after he allegedly killed a head teacher of a primary school in the district who had allegedly got his sister pregnant, The National reports.

According to news reports, the student, Judas Maun, killed Selvis Kukus over child support owed to his sister. It is alleged that Kukus had impregnated Maun’s sister in 2015 but has refused to pay child support despite courts orders.

Maun, a grade 9 student at Maprik Secondary School, allegedly met Kukus at Angoram station on his return from holiday and inquired about the support owed his sister.

According to the student’s father, Samson, the head teacher allegedly hit Maun on the head with a wooden chair and he retaliated by fatally slashing Kukus with a machete. He was apprehended by the locals and taken to the Angoram Police Station. However, when news of Kukus death spread, angry locals stormed the Station, chased Maun out of the cells and killed him as he was trying to escape.

While the East Sepik Provincial Police Commander (PPC) has not released a statement on the matter yet, it is understood that Angoram Police Station has only 5 officers on the ground.
