The Papua New Guinea Teachers’ Association (PNGTA) congress passed a resolution to extend the term of their national executives for another two years to 2025.
PNGTA national president Aita Sanagkepe revealed this after sixty-five (65) members that attended the association triennial congress in Lae voted in favor to have clause sixteen (16) of their constitution that specify election of the national executives from three (3) years repealed and amended to five (5) years.
He said the PNGTA constitution is supreme and decisions made in congress can be repealed, amended or removed, so congress have spoken and they will have it properly amended and submitted to the industrial registrar for approval.
Mr Sanangkepe said the congress also agreed to transfer to the power of the supervisory body to the industrial registrar as the association did not call and hold a congress since its establishment in 1971.

He also said added that PNGTA has an obligation to its financial members who are teachers so their welfare, rights to leave fares, medical insurance, other allowances that come with their profession and salary must be addressed.
Our corporate plan was presented during the congress and all members accepted this plan with the main focus on database.

He said the current national executives will work closely with national management committee to achieve some of the agendas discussed and teachers need some confidence in their leadership.
