Police are not allowed to go into examination rooms, says Education Minister Jimmy Uguro.
The Minister said that the job of the Special Services Division (SSD), who are attached with the invigilators, is to provide, assist and mitigate security risks to the invigilators and the rights of the students.
Police do not go into examination rooms and are not invigilators. This is not allowed.
There are always risks, where attempts made by criminals to steal examination papers and providing fake answer sheets. Systems have been designed and are implemented to mitigate that risk.
We have the support of the police to clamp down and round up suspects in high risk areas.
Jimmy Uguro, Education Minister
Minister Uguro said there are no reports on bribery and cheating yet, and commended the department on tightening policies to ensure the rights of students are respected during the exams.
I commend those who obey instructions and those who do the right thing. I wish teachers and students a successful exam.
Uguro
Several policemen from the Special Service Division (SSD) have traveled into several provinces around the country including Morobe, Madang, Eastern Highlands, Southern Highlands and Hela as they assist invigilators and other Education officials to carry out their duties during the three weeks of examinations.
In recent years, PNG has experienced an unprecedented rise in cheating scandals from several schools across the country and as such the inclusion of police is a way to deter such activities from being carried out.
