The Flexible, Open and Distance Education (FODE) center in Maprik, East Sepik, graduated its first sixteen (16) full correspondence students last week, The National reports. The students were part of the 48th Maprik Secondary School graduation.
The center’s coordinator Mr Julias Waiguma said there were two categories under the program; full correspondence and upgrade, and the first were given the opportunity to experience graduating. He said the later had already been in formal education system and had already experienced graduated.

Among the Grade 10 students who graduated under the FODE program is a fifty-two (52) year old mother of two teenage children, Annelly Alesi. She said she was grateful for having the opportunity to part of the event.
FODE is open to anybody regardless of your status whether you are single or married, employed or not employed and even the ages don’t matter.

Alesi, who had previously completed her education up to grade six, said her dream is to become a teacher and aimed to complete her studies through FODE and get a certificate in early childhood learning and become an early childhood teacher.
