A 20-year-old female student from Finschhafen district in Morobe, attending a teachers college in Chimbu province, died in the provincial hospital early this week.
Police suspect foul play.
The student was discovered in her room at a guest house disoriented with the lower part of her body exposed.
The deceased was too weak and behaving strangely by speaking senselessly and was taken to the hospital.

The examination results at the hospital showed that her body had no fluids for 48 hours and she died the next day at the Kundiawa Memorial Hospital.
According to information collected by Kundiawa police, the deceased went to a night club and drank alcohol where she had an argument with her boyfriend. There she met a male friend who led her to three other men believed to be her friends at the guest house.
She was then taken to Wara Simbu where she was allegedly raped along the river bank.
Police are awaiting a post mortem report.
He said police are appealing to the public for any information on the identity of the suspects to help in the investigations.
It is unfortunate and painful for the family whose daughter died in these horrifying circumstances.
