Sixty one (61) teachers from Jiwaka Province had their leave entitlement applications rejected this year because they filed false information.
Most of the teachers claimed that they were from other provinces teaching in Jiwaka.
Acting provincial education adviser Andrew Kuk said after authorities screened the applications, they found information to be false.
He said the provincial education office has records of all the teachers and their postings, backed up by information collected from the head teachers and principals.
Mr Kuk said those who applied for leave fares last year will not be eligible apply again this year.
He said teachers are eligible for leave fares every two years.
Mr Kuk said out of 700 applications from teachers in the province, 402 have been accepted and will be paid. Acting provincial education administration officer Robin Kip banked K580,800 as an early Christmas gift for those teachers last Friday.
Mr Kip said priority will go to plane tickets for teachers from outside the province, and for those travelling by highway, bus fare for one couple and two dependants only will be paid.
He said the leave fares were made possible through the Education Department.
Teachers who bank with Bank South Pacific should have the money cleared by Monday, while those who bank with Kina Bank and Westpac will have their money ready before end of this week.
Mr Kuk thanked Governor Simon Kaiwi and the administration for fast tracking teachers leave fare entitlements.
He said for the first time, the provincial education board screened each and every application before being approved.
He said last year a total of K500,000 leave fares were released, this year it creased to K80,000. Mr Kuk said the provincial government must be commended for facilitating the leave fares on time.
