A two day consultative workshop conducted by the Office of Higher Education (OHE) and the Department of National Planning is underway at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby.

The Labour Market Assessment (LMA) Consultation Workshop is a two day event with the general theme “Planning the Education & Training of the Readiness Skilled Workforce for a Middle Income Economy” that will focus on the results of the LMA Survey conducted from 2008 to 2010 and the education reform in the higher technical education sector.

The welcoming and opening speech was by the acting Director General of the Higher Education, Dr. William Tagis, while Dr. Joseph Sukwianomb made a speech in place of the Minsters for National Planning, Hon. Sam Basil and Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology (HERST), Hon. David Arore.

Sukwianomb pointed out the education sector is divided and that the sector should be united in order to realise the goals of the first pillar, human resource; the most important aspect of the country’s Vision 2050. He also said that the other pillars would fall in place if the first one is realised. His speech was followed by Mr. George Bopi, a Papua New Guinean consultant engaged to carry out the survey.

The workshop ends on the 27th of October.
